Magister Program of the English Education Department at UIN Alauddin Makassar Explores Double Degree Collaboration with SOAS University of London

Makassar, November 03ʳᵈ, 2025 — Magister Program of English Education Department at Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar welcomed representatives from SOAS University of London in a strategic visit aimed at discussing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a Master’s Dual Degree Program between the two institutions.

This event was attended by the SOAS delegation, Professor Ayman Shihadeh, the Head of the English Education Master’s Program, Dr. Sukirman, S.Pd., M.Pd., Ph.D., the Secretary of the Program, Dr. Serliah Nur, M.Hum., M.Ed., who also serves as the Head of the International Office and four postgraduate students from the Department of Dirasah Islamiyah.

During the session, both universities explored academic collaboration opportunities, focusing on curriculum alignment, student mobility, English language requirements, and scholarship frameworks. The planned dual degree program was designed to provide students with the opportunity to complete part of their studies at Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar and part at SOAS University of London, and to obtain a degree from both institutions upon completion.

Magister Program of English Education Department emphasized that this initiative marked an important milestone in Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar’s efforts to broaden international partnerships and enhance the global competitiveness of its postgraduate programs. The collaboration also reflects commitment to advancing academic excellence, intercultural understanding, and international visibility in the field of English language education within the framework of Islamic higher education.

Through this initiative, the Magister Program of English Education Department at Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar continued to play an active role in promoting cross-border academic collaboration and supporting the university’s mission to become a globally recognized Islamic higher education institution contributing to global civilization.
