The Magister Program of the English Education Department at UIN Alauddin Makassar Engages in AICIS+ 2025 to Strengthen Academic Collaboration

Depok, October 29, 2025 — Secretary of the Magister Program of the English Education Department at Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar, Dr. Serliah Nur, M.Hum., M.Ed., actively participated in the Annual International Conference on Islam, Science, and Society (AICIS+ 2025), held at Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) Depok from 29–31 October 2025. The event, organized by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, gathered scholars from 31 countries under the main theme “Islam, Ecotheology, and Technological Transformation: Multidisciplinary Innovations for an Equitable and Sustainable Future.”

In collaboration with Dr. Indria Nur from the State Islamic Institute of Sorong, Southwest Papua, and Dr. Ilham Alimuddin from the Department of Geology, Hasanuddin University, and Dr. Serliah Nur presented their joint research entitled “Kati Sasi from the Perspective of Islamic Ecotheology: Local Wisdom-Based Innovations for Environmental Sustainability, Economic Justice, Public Health, and Technological Transformation in Raja Ampat Regency, Papua.”

Their presentation explored the traditional practices of Kati Sasi—a local marine conservation system in Raja Ampat—from an Islamic ecotheology perspective. The study highlights how local wisdom, when combined with Islamic values and modern technology, can create a sustainable environmental management model while simultaneously promoting economic justice and public health.

Participation in AICIS+ 2025 also serves as a platform for the Magister Program of the English Education Department at Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar to strengthen international academic networks and promote collaborative research in fields connecting Islam, science, and sustainability.

Through such forums, the Magister Program of the English Education Department at Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar continues to develop its role as an Islamic higher education program with global engagement, supporting research and partnerships that contribute to the realization of a just, sustainable, and inclusive society.
